ECHO Family Resource Center

Details: | 2 Story | 13 bedroom, 6 bath | 16,881 sq ft

Location: Ojai, California

Bevyhouse is partnering with Arris Studio Architects and El Camino Homeless Organization (ECHO) to design and build a new facility in Atascadero, California that expands the organization’s capacity to serve families as they transition into permanent housing.

This two-story building will be constructed from 12 prefabricated modules and connected to the existing ECHO Center via a bridge, echoing the style and character of the original structure. The first floor will house essential shelter services, including sleeping rooms, a computer lab, and shared communal spaces like a reading room and TV lounge. The second floor will serve as office space for ECHO’s dedicated team. One unique design challenge: the building sits on a slab foundation in order to allow for ADA access at the site requiring us to ship the first floor modules without floors—supported by temporary steel bracing during transport and install. This site-specific solution demonstrates the versatility of modular construction.
